Gloom Cloud
Free, Pro and Team plans, sign-in, account settings, the calendar feed, chat and direct messages, the live toggle, what stays on your machine, crash reports, and usage counts.
Gloom Cloud is the optional account behind the app: hosted data, sync, chat, and the AI command bar. The app runs without it.
Plans
| Plan | Data and features |
|---|---|
| Free | US equities and options delayed 15 minutes, news delayed 12 hours, sync, chat, AI command bar. |
| Pro | Real-time US equities and options with streaming quotes, real-time news wire, options flow, earnings call transcripts, hiring data, the MCP server. 7-day free trial. |
| Team | Pro for every member, billed to the team. See Teams. |
Prices. Data coverage for exchanges, indices, futures, FX, crypto, options, filings, news, and macro, venue by venue.
Sign in and account
First launch asks you to connect Gloom Cloud: email and password, b to sign in with the browser, or s (Skip setup) to stay local. A verified email turns on sync, chat, and the AI command bar.
| Command | Does |
|---|---|
Search Sign Up, Log In, or Logout | Account workflows. |
Search Log In with QR Code | Shows a QR code and a sign-in link. Scan it with any phone camera or press b to continue in the browser, then approve at gloom.sh/link while signed in. |
ACM | Account management. |
UPGRADE | Opens Pro checkout, or the billing portal during a trial. Signs you up first when signed out; hidden once you pay for Pro. |
ACM has six tabs:
| Tab | Controls |
|---|---|
| Profile | Public profile, Incoming DMs (lets people start a DM with you; off by default), username, name, company, title, public email, X account, bio, portfolio for public analytics (one-year return and SPY beta only, never positions). |
| Emails | Offline chat (replies and DMs while away), weekly roundup, smart alerts on unusual portfolio or watchlist moves. Smart alerts also email your price alerts that trigger while Gloom is closed. |
| Calendar | c copies your calendar feed link, n replaces it with a new one. |
| Pro | Plan comparison, trial status, upgrade or manage Pro. |
| Teams | Your teams and pending invitations. Enter opens one. |
| Advanced | Change password, delete account. |
Calendar feed
A private link with the dates that matter for your holdings and watchlists, free on every plan. Copy it from ACM > Calendar and add it in Google Calendar (Other calendars > From URL), Apple Calendar (File > New Calendar Subscription) or Outlook (Add calendar > Subscribe from web).
| Events | Window |
|---|---|
| Earnings of US-listed tickers, all day on the report date, with BMO or AMC when the time is known | 90 days back, and ahead as far as dates are announced (about 7 weeks) |
| Ex-dividend dates, where Gloom has one on file (not every ticker does) | 90 days back, 180 days ahead |
| FOMC rate decisions | About a year ahead |
| US CPI, jobs report, PCE and GDP releases | About 5 weeks ahead |
The calendar updates on its own as your tickers and dates change. Google can take up to a day to show a change.
The link shows which tickers you follow, never position sizes. Anyone with it can read the calendar: if it leaks, n in ACM > Calendar replaces it, and the old link stops working at once.
Chat and direct messages
To start a direct message or group chat, run DM @alice @bob or press + beside DMs in the chat sidebar. Each person you add needs Incoming DMs on in ACM > Profile. Sending needs a verified email.
CHAT opens the chat with the most unread messages (DMs and groups first), else your last channel. CHAT #macro opens a public channel (#everyone, #equities, #options, #macro, #crypto, #energy, #help); CHAT MD opens the #general of the team with short name MD.
Hosted datasets
| Command | Opens |
|---|---|
TBO | TheBuildout infrastructure data. Limited Sites data and 72-hour-delayed Intel are free; full data needs a TheBuildout subscription. |
CG [ticker] | Congress Trades: House and Senate periodic transaction reports, with a Chamber filter (both by default). |
Live toggle
Charts, ticker research, quote monitors, options, portfolios, market movers, and the crypto board show a lightning toggle beside the title.
| Toggle | Updates |
|---|---|
| On (default) | Continuous, where plan and provider allow. |
| Off | Once a minute. |
| On, in a pane that follows another | Uses the source pane's setting. |
The toggle cannot grant an entitlement the account, provider, or instrument lacks. The pane status shows what you actually get.
What stays local
| Area | Behavior |
|---|---|
| App and plugins | Run on your machine. Plugins install into ~/.gloomberb/plugins/; their storage stays local unless the plugin uses a hosted service. |
| Layouts, portfolios, watchlists, settings | Local copy; syncs across devices once signed in. |
| Notes | Local .md files while signed out. Once verified, notes live in Gloom Cloud, shared across devices and teams; local files upload once and stay on disk. |
| Broker profiles | The profile entry syncs; credentials and connection settings stay on the device that set them up. |
| Secrets | Never uploaded by sync. Plugins, providers, and brokers still contact their own services. |
Crash reports, usage counts and searches
The app sends two kinds of report to Gloom's API, which forwards them to error tracking and product analytics. The apps never contact an analytics service themselves.
Crash reports. When the app hits an uncaught error, a render crash, or a plugin that fails to load, it sends the error type, message and stack trace, the app version, the operating system, the surface (terminal, desktop or web), and the plugin id when a plugin failed. Your home directory is replaced with ~ before sending. Reports are tied to your account only when you are signed in.
Usage counts. The app counts how often you open each function, from the command bar, a menu or a link in another pane, and which functions are on screen when a workspace is restored at launch. It sends each function's mnemonic (such as DES or GP) with those two counts, plus the surface, the app version, and the operating system: a minute after the first count, then every 15 minutes, and when you quit. Functions from plugins outside the official gloom-sh ones are sent as plugin, so their names never leave your machine. The server adds your plan (signed out, Free or Pro) from your session; the counts are never tied to your account.
Neither report contains anything from your workspace: no tickers, arguments, portfolios, watchlists, layouts, settings, or queries. Both carry a random install id, kept in ~/.gloomberb/install-id (in the browser, in local storage).
Command bar searches. When you are signed in, the app also saves the searches you finish in the command bar to your account: the text once you pause typing or run it (never each keystroke), the AI suggestions shown for it, and which result you picked. Gloom uses them to improve search; they are never shown to anyone. They are kept until you delete your account. Text typed inside forms opened from the command bar is never sent, and text that looks like a pasted key is dropped. In current versions of the app, Usage Counts turns this off too.
To turn either off, run Crash Reports or Usage Counts from the command bar, or:
gloomberb config set telemetry.crashReports false
gloomberb config set telemetry.usage falseGLOOMBERB_NO_TELEMETRY=1 or DO_NOT_TRACK=1 in the environment turns both off. The browser app also honours Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control.
