About this chapter

This chapter teaches you to drive Gloom (type a command, read and arrange panes, check how fresh the numbers are) and then to set up your own corner of it.

What you will be able to do

  • Open any function on any ticker from the command bar, without the mouse.
  • Find the right listing of a company when the same letters exist on several exchanges.
  • Arrange panes into layouts, add a ready-made desk, and make one pane follow another.
  • Open the help card of any screen and read its "Data" line: is this live, or 15 minutes behind?
  • Run the same functions from your shell and get a table or JSON back.
  • Keep a portfolio and a watchlist, read their risk, size a position, set alerts.
  • Write notes and theses, chat with other users, connect a broker, and ask Gloom a question in plain English.
