The AI helpers (ASKG, AI, AGENT)
Gloom has three AI helpers: Ask Gloom (ASKG) answers with Gloom's own tools and cites its sources, the AI screener (AI) turns a sentence into a list of tickers, and the agent (AGENT) can operate the app for you.

Why you would care
Can you just ask? "Which of my holdings report earnings this week?" "Why is NVDA down today?" You could open five panes to answer. Or you can ask in plain English and watch which panes the answer came from. AI helpers are fast. They are also sometimes wrong, so this lesson is as much about checking as about asking.
The idea from scratch
An AI language model is a program that writes text by predicting likely words. On its own it does not know today's prices. To answer market questions well, it needs tools: ways to look things up.
Ask Gloom gives the model Gloom's own functions as tools. When you ask a question, it decides which functions to run (a quote, the earnings calendar, a filing), reads the results, and writes an answer that cites them. You can watch each tool call as it happens.
The three helpers
| Helper | Open | What it does | What it needs |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ask Gloom | ASKG why is NVDA down today, or the Ask Gloom row in the command bar | Answers about your panes and the market, using Gloom's tools, with sources | A Gloom account with a verified email; Pro gets a stronger model |
| AI screener | AI humanoid robot suppliers with improving margins | Returns a reusable tab of tickers, each with a one-line reason | The AI add-on plugin and your own AI account |
| Agent | AGENT | A persistent conversation that can read your panes, open panes and change selections | The AI add-on plugin and your own AI account |
The screener and the agent come from an add-on plugin where you connect your own AI account ("bring your own key"): requests go from your computer to that account, and its quota and bill are yours. They run in the desktop and terminal apps, not in the browser.
The command bar also uses AI in a small way: signed in with a verified email, a plain-English request like "show me apple's options" suggests the exact commands.
What to trust
- The screener checks that each ticker exists. It does not prove that the company meets your criteria. Check the numbers in the company's own panes.
- Missing data is not evidence. "No debt found" can mean "no data found".
- Prefer answers with citations, and open them.

open ittype ASKG followed by your question, for example ASKG which of my holdings report earnings this week?.
- Your question appears at the top of the Ask Gloom pane.
- Below it, each tool Gloom runs, one line per call (for example the earnings calendar for your portfolio).
- The answer, with its citations.
- Keys:
nnew conversation, tset the tickers in focus, oopen the pane behind a cited result.
Practice and recap
Try it3 tasks
- Write a good Ask Gloom question about a company you know, one that a pane could answer. ("When does MSFT report, and what move do options imply?")
- Rewrite a vague screener prompt into a precise one. ("Good tech stocks" becomes "US software companies with revenue growth above 20% and positive free cash flow".)
- For the screener's answer, name one pane where you would check each claim. (Revenue growth:
FA; free cash flow:FA.)
Common mistakes4 mistakes
- Trusting an answer without opening its sources.
- Asking about very recent events without checking dates: on the free plan news is 12 hours behind, so look at the time stamps of what the answer cites.
- Treating screener results as "stocks that pass". They are candidates to check.
- Forgetting the bill: the screener and agent use your own AI account.
Check yourself3 questions
- What makes Ask Gloom different from a general chatbot?
- Who pays for the AI screener's requests?
- The screener lists a company as "debt-free". What should you do?
Answers
- It runs Gloom's own functions as tools and cites the results.
- You: it uses the AI account you connected.
- Check the balance sheet in
FA; the screener only checks that the ticker exists.
